[click here for a downloadable info packet] A coalition of devout Catholics organizes a first-ever event in Dallas, Texas! An evening of Eucharistic Worship will be held on Friday, May 13, 2005, at 8 PM C.S.T. at the Cotton Bowl. This unprecedented gathering will gain national, if not worldwide, attention. It comes during what Pope John Paul II has declared the 'Year of the Eucharist.' “We are all very enthusiastic about this great event, and I personally believe this will be a moment in history for Dallas,” stated Bishop Charles V. Grahmann of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas in a letter to all priests. The Cotton Bowl holds 68,252 people. Because of strong endorsements from the Catholic Church leadership and a planned widespread, multimedia publicity campaign, it's expected the historic venue will be filled. The Eucharistic Exposition and Procession is entitled "Eucharistic Family Rosary Crusade." It will be directed by Father James Kelleher, S.O.L.T., and led by Bishop Grahmann. The plan has received the unanimous support of the Presbyteral Council of the Dallas Catholic Diocese. The council represents priests in the diocese. “The Diocese of Dallas wants to see this happen. I look forward to being a part of it,” stated Bishop Grahmann in his letter. The event will begin with the Solemn Procession of the Eucharist by Bishop Grahmann, accompanied by many priests and deacons. Also included will be people representing the many active ethnic groups of the diocese. Several choirs will sing before and throughout the Eucharistic worship. A five decade Rosary will be recited in many languages as well. Father Kelleher says of the much-anticipated gathering of Eucharistic worshippers, "This is a time of grace for the City of Dallas - and our Nation." Admission to the Cotton Bowl, May 13th, will be free and all faiths are welcome to attend. A small parking fee may be assessed. Praise and Worship music will begin an hour prior to the Eucharistic event, from 7pm - 8pm. Several locally prominent Catholics serve on the board of directors of the non-profit group formed to support the event. In addition to Bishop Grahmann, they are Donald Wetzel, Deacon Brian Mitchell and Lawrence Coleman. Father Kelleher is the former president of the College of our Lady of Corpus Christi. He was previously involved in missionary work in China and is currently head of S.O.L.T. missions in Russia. More info to come soon!
